Has anyone mailed a short year final 990EZ/990T return to the IRS?
Despite the IRS requirement, Proseries does not provide the ability to e-file a 2026 short year final 990 using the 2025 software. The client and I are unable to wait a year for 2026 software so how are we supposed conform to the e-file mandate?
Has anyone paper-filed in this situation? If so, was the paper return processed or rejected by the IRS?
Thinking of attaching a letter of explanation saying Proseries doesn't accommodate the IRS requirement.
Does anyone know of another inexpensive, one-time software provider to fill the gap? (Interestingly, but not surprising, Intuit is listed as an approved e-file provider for this situation--and when you click the IRS link, you end up at the Proseries page trying to sell their software.) Two other providers I surveyed from the IRS list also do not handle short year final returns.
And now the venting: I realize this is not a frequent need, but nonetheless it should be handled by Proseries when the IRS explicitly requires e-filing. (Please don't refer me to the useless user enhancement voting list.)
Thanks!
