ex spouse ssi# on back taxes being filed

Good Morning Everyone

I completed some past due taxes for a customer in 2016 and 2017 at the time he was married and now he is divorced and it is asking for the ex spouse ssi# on the information works section but the customer does not know it. how do I get past without it showing an error. Will the taxes be rejected if I submit? Please help.

Are you preparing MFJ returns for the 2016 and 2017?  You won't have an efile rejection because you can't efile.   Ask the spouse for SS#.  Shouldn't be a problem since she is included on the returns and she should be aware of what is being done.

      • How could he have been married to someone and not know her social security number? Just asking and just my opinion...
