E-file 2018 1040 in 2021?

Can I e-file prior year individual returns?  

Yes. You can generally e-file the currently due tax year  - 2020 and two prior years - 2019 and 2018 correct in Year 2021?.

      Yes, you can - eventually.  But you can't right now; IRS e-file is closed for retooling until late January 2021.

        Thanks everyone for the confirmation and also CURRENTLY not be able to e-file 2018 1040's!

        Course, with this client, I be lucky if they provide me requested information by end of this year!

        Luckily, they have no tax liability, so no tax penalties, just wanting to complete the year so no

        future IRS correspondence!    Ex.  missing return or perhaps CP2000.   

        All other years have been filed....just  waiting for SSA-1099.
