You have to fill out the Simple Method Smart Worksheet and then scroll down and enter the square footage on lines 1 and 2. You also need a date in Part II, Line 8 Worksheet, Box A.
They really should streamline this for simplified method folks. One box at the top where you enter everything. Then all the extra stuff at the bottom if you're doing a full 8829. But they don't let me write the software.
