Gambling Winnings form W-2G without 1st and 2nd ID

AccountingExecs
Level 3

Hey everyone,

I have a client that won gambling money two times in 2025.  They received 2 different W-2G forms.  Neither form had the First I.D. nor Second I.D. boxes filed out. ProConnect is throwing an EF Critical Diagnostic because there is nothing input into those two fields.

Does anyone have any experience with this and can provide some guidance?  It doesn't seem necessary to include any information for those two boxes, so I am not sure why I am getting an error in ProConnect for it.

Thanks!

Veeeery interesting.  ProSeries lets you get by without that information.  Since the IRS isn’t going to match anything to that info, just make up a number to make the software happy.

That is what I am leaning towards doing since I can't see a reason for requiring it. I am always hesitant though when I get a diagnostic to clear it without information.  I starting to learn more and more that just because there is a diagnostic doesn't mean you have to do anything.

Thanks for your input.
