Hello,
I have a client who filed 2023 and 2024 as a Resident Alien - Form 1040, but he has failed the physical presence test for the last five tax years - we must now convert his original "self-prepared" return from Form 1040 to a Form 1040-NR by filing a 1040-X for TY 2023/2024.
Is there a way to do this in ProConnect? I've spent all weekend trying to do this and cannot get Column C totals to reflect the correct pro-rata wages for work conducted remotely from another country.
It would be good to get feeback from the "ProConnect Experts" on here - I'm thinking it cannot be done in ProConnect, but any and all feedback is appreciated.
If a 1040NR should have been filed instead of a 1040, shouldn't the 1040X be all zeroes with a 1040NR attached?
I think the 1040X instructions address this. (They do - page 2)
I'm pretty sure this will be a paper filed return so you could start a new file for the 1040NR.
Yep! I believe you are right, and yes, it has to be a paper filed return, because the taxpayer self-prepared; I believe those NR returns go to Austin for processing. Thanks again!
