Question

IRS has not received the tax return filed

I filed my client's 1040 on April 12th and proconnect shows it was filed and accepted by both the IRS and CA. He did not receive his refund and when checked "Where is my refund" it did not show anything. He created username/password for IRS when logged in, it said his taxes were not filed and now it's past due date. Since Procoonect says it was filed and accepted, what can I do?

Thanks

Hi @Babak Thanks for posting in the Community about the IRS not receiving the tax return. If the return shows as accepted in ProConnect, the IRS and CA assigned a Submission ID when the return was received. You can locate this ID using the article below and have your client provide it when contacting the IRS or FTB:

Your client can also check their IRS Online Account and CA MyFTB account for additional filing and refund status information.

@Kathi_at_Intuit thank you. I'll have them follow up. Is this something common? because it's the first time happening to me in 6-7 years of doing taxes.

It is a good idea for clients to have an account with IRS.gov and FTB.CA.gov to solve problems just like this. The returns may be in the system, but there is some other issue that is delaying the refunds. Signing up with the government accounts allows access by the client to see what has been received and to get copies of old returns.

The database that says we accepted your efiled return is different than the database for "Where's My Refund". It takes a while to sync. So I'd wait. You are just at the 6 week mark.

Was there an address change, change of filing status? These things slow the works.

The more I know the more I don’t know.
