Did the taxpayers get married in the current year?  I had this happen to me once and it was because the spouse hadnt changed their name with the Social Security Administration.  If you continue to get the issue, I would think you would want to have the client reach out to the Social Security Administration to ensure that there isnt and issue.

No they’ve been married a while. Filed joint returns for their entire marriage since 2019.

"First time filing for this client."

First time you filed for the client?

Or first return the client ever filed?

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Sometimes if you have last years return to look at and file the name exactly as the last return it will work but not sure how to help you with wrong number.
