I have tried for over 10 hours to find out how to tranfer the quickbooks files into Lacerte and neither support at Lacerte or Quickbooks has been successful

The trial balance tab at the top of the screen in Lacerte is where you go to link the files. As previously mentioned, however, it is not the most useful tool. The coding does carryforward from year to year, but depending on the number of accounts and summarizations you need, it may not be worth it. 

Pretty sure I can do it at least as fast as in excel, just data input, no linking, but everyone is trying to automate more these days, so we're using it.

Are you trying to export QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop trial balance?

Somewhere on these forums I recall seeing that it won't work with QBO. Don't remember if it was Lacerte. ProSeries, or ProConnect.

Unpopular opinion, it would seem, but I regularly use the utility tool. Year over year it saves a lot of input time, especially on large returns. It saves my account mapping from PY, so I don’t have to do much updating to assign the accounts to the forms. My beef is just the lag time sometimes when I’m trying to map the chart of accounts on a new client upload. 

The part you might be getting stuck on is when you select to import from QuickBooks, the window to find the QB file will pop up in the background and freeze your Lacerte TB screen. You have to use the hot keys ALT+Tab to go to the window that allows you to select the QB file. Then you may have to do this again when it opens QB and asks for the password. Last step is just to say Yes to allowing Lacerte to access the data in the QB file.

It is possible your QB settings are blocking the connection, if you can’t get the two programs to talk to each other. Check your application settings in QuickBooks Desktop to make sure it isn’t automatically blocking apps from accessing the file. 

QBO is simply exporting the TB to Excel, formatting it to map into Lacerte TB and then importing the file. A tad easier, due to not having to enter passwords and allow access between applications.
