I just got the message that updates were available, and clicked on the choice to install them. After a while, I got an error message that the C:\Lacerte\24tax was not valid. When I went into that directory, the program files had been deleted. Thanks, Lacerte.

You're missing the point. I solved my problem by downloading the current CD and reinstalling. But a program that auto-updates shouldn't delete itself, and then stop and throw an error message.
