Force Bank Information for Refunds to be included on all returns

ibs-cpa

This year we are all being inundated with IRS notices requesting bank information.  Many of these notices are for taxpayers who had a balance due but then had some sort of adjustment made which resulted in an overpayment.  Per IRS person I spoke with earlier today, the bank information for payment does not go in the same place as the bank information for refunds, so even though bank information was provided it cannot be used or moved resulting in the notice being issued.

Can you add an option to force the bank information for refunds to be included on the return and in the electronic file even when there is no refund due?

I will be suggesting this to the IRS as well via the taxpayer advocate systemic issue submission process in case it is an IRS limitation that is preventing you from being able to offer this feature.

The adjustments that I've seen have to do with the calculation of interest and penalties.  The IRS is calculating a different (lesser) amount than Lacerte resulting in a refund.  It is always a nominal amount - wondering why these amounts differ?

Why "FORCE" ? Why not "ALLOW" ?  I'm here to help my clients, not twist their arms.  Not a bad idea, starting with IRS.  In my experience, it takes about five years for a suggestion like yours to work through the system.  Then the software developers will probably go along with it.

Not saying to force the client, just saying to have an option in Lacerte to force the information to be included as part of the e-file.
